Est. 1986 · Salt & low range

Beach BumOff-Road

One red 4Runner, four decades of sun, and a phone that lives in the console. Every photo on this site came off the trail or out of the garage — mud, snow, breakdowns, and whatever's up on jack stands that week.

03 — Trail Run

The Arcade

Same idea as the real thing: stay out of the rocks, stay out of the mud, and the trail only gets faster the further you push it.

How it goes

  1. Steer with on a keyboard, or drag anywhere on the trail with a thumb.
  2. Gas and brake are and . On a phone the throttle stays open — all you do is point it.
  3. Rocks, logs and stumps cost you a body panel. Run out of panels and you're getting towed.
  4. Mud won't dent you, it just takes the steering away for a second. Which is usually worse.
  5. Grab the toolbox to hammer a panel back out, and hit P any time to shut the engine off.

Your best run is remembered on this device only — no accounts, no leaderboard, nobody to beat but the last version of you. Scroll away and the engine shuts itself off.

Builds
In Progress

The truck is never finished, so the write-ups aren't either. Documented as it happens — including the parts ordered twice.

Build 01 — Digital Gauge Cluster

Three screens replacing the factory instrument panel: an 8.8" strip behind the wheel, two round pods, one CAN bus, and an interface board that turns forty-year-old harness wiring into something an ESP32 can read. Nine sheets, every schematic, every firmware file.

Build 02 — Suspension

The biggest change this truck will have had. A JD Fabrication long travel front end replaces the 4" lift, a Wicked Creations 3-link replaces the Samurai springs out back, and King coilovers go on all four corners. Not a taller truck — a different way of moving.

Build 03 — nothing planned. Something will break first, and that will decide it.
05 — The Rig

Still
Not Done

Started life as a stock 1986 — torsion-bar IFS straight from the factory — before it slowly turned into the truck you see buried in half of these photos. Four inches of lift up front, Samurai springs out back, lockers on both ends and an interior built by hand. It's been welded on, winched out and rebuilt in a driveway more times than anyone's willing to say out loud.

The suspension is the next thing to go. Long travel up front, a 3-link out back, and King shocks on all four corners — that build's here.
